Desert Hills Evangelical Free Church in Phoenix, Arizona
Sunday Services: 10:30am and 6:00pm

What to Expect

Visiting a new church can be an intimidating experience for many people. When you visit Desert Hills, we want you to feel welcome so that you can focus on what really matters: worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ. Here are some common questions guests often have, along with some answers:

What is the Sunday service like?

Our service consists of reading Scripture, singing songs both old and new, prayer, and the expositional preaching of God’s Word. The first Sunday of each month we partake in the Lord’s Supper. The typical service lasts about an hour and twenty minutes.

What is an “Evangelical Free” Church?

The term “Evangelical” refers to our faith and theology. We are committed to the proclamation of the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, and to the Scriptures as the inspired, inerrant, authoritative, and sufficient Word of God.

The term “Free” refers to our polity, our structure and organization. Each local church operates as a free and independent entity in unity with other EFCA churches.

For more information on the EFCA movement, including our statement of faith, visit efca.org.

What Bible translation do you use in worship services?

A: For public reading of Scripture and preaching, we use the New American Standard Bible (NASB).

Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?

No! We give a general word of welcome to all our guests but we will not single you out in any way. There is a welcome table in the Worship Center foyer where you can receive a gift and ask any questions you might have about Desert Hills.

What should I wear?

You will see a range of different attire at Desert Hills from people wearing shorts or jeans to suits and ties.

Do you provide childcare?

At Desert Hills we believe children are important and we offer a safe, loving, and positive environment for them. All of our children’s workers are screened and background checked to ensure the highest level of safety for your children.

All parents are welcome to keep their children with them for any of our classes or services. A nursery is available for children birth through 2 years old during Sunday school and worship services.

We offer Sunday School for Children from preschool through 6th grade at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings.

During the worship service, children 3 years old and up begin the service with their parents. After we finish worshiping in song, children age 3 and 4 are dismissed for Tiny Tots, where they are taught the Bible by our staff of volunteers. Parents who prefer to keep their preschoolers in service with them are welcome to do so.

We also offer an AWANA program on Wednesday nights.

For more information on children’s activities please visit our Children’s Ministry page.

What do you have for junior high and high school students?

At Desert Hills our Jr./Sr. High school ministry, “Invincible” meets on the campus on Sundays at 6:45 pm and also offers Jr. and Sr. High School Sunday school classes at 9am.

During worship services we encourage families to worship together in the main service.

Do you have a Small Group Ministry?

Yes, we have a Small Group Ministry with groups meeting throughout the valley to build community and grow together in Christ. For more information about this ministry, call the church office or stop by the Welcome Table in the Worship Center Foyer on Sunday morning.
