Got Questions? … We’ve Got Answers!
Q: When did Desert Hills begin?
A: In 1969 a group of people had a desire to establish an Evangelical Free church in northwest Phoenix. We have been at our current location on Greenway Road since 1972 and our present Worship Center was dedicated on January 23, 2000.
Q: What do you mean by “Evangelical Free?”
A: The term “Evangelical” refers to our faith and theology. We are committed to the proclamation of the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ, and to the Scriptures as being the inspired, inerrant, authoritative and sufficient Word of God.
The term “Free” refers to our polity, our structure and organization. Each local church operates as a free and independent entity in unity with other EFCA churches.
Q: What is the Sunday service like?
A: It is our desire that our Sunday morning service be a time that we as the body of Christ can worship God corporately in Spirit and in truth.
To that end, our service consists of reading Scripture, singing songs both old and new, prayer, and the expositional preaching of God’s Word. The first Sunday of each month we partake in the Lord’s Supper.
Q: Will I have to say anything, sign anything, give anything, or be singled out in any way?
A: No! We give a general word of welcome to all our guests but we will not single you out in any way. Also, there is a welcome table in the Worship Center foyer where you can receive a gift and information about Desert Hills. When the offering bag is passed, do not feel obligated to give any money as we simply want to thank you for being with us!
Q: What should I wear?
A: We invite you to come as you are! You will see a range of different attire at Desert Hills from people wearing jeans to suits, casual dress to “Sunday best.”
Q: What about my children?
A: At Desert Hills we believe children are important and we offer a safe, loving, and positive environment for them.
For children ages birth through Kindergarten we offer fun activities during both the Sunday School hour and Worship celebration. Parents can check in their children at the Nursery Building. Of course, parents are always welcome to keep their children with them during any of our services.
We offer Sunday School for Children from preschool through 6th grade at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings. During the worship service, we pass out age-appropriate outlines so that the children can learn to listen to and learn from God’s preached Word.
We also offer an AWANA program on Wednesday nights.
For more information on children’s activities please visit the “Children’s Ministry” page on this website.
Q: What do you have for junior high and high school students?
A: At Desert Hills our Jr./Sr. High school ministry, “Invincible” meets on the campus on Sundays at 6:45 pm and also offers Jr. and Sr. High School Sunday school classes at 9am.
For more information please contact Rick Drost, our pastor to Jr./Sr. High students at PastorRick@dhefc.com
Q: Do you have a Small Group Ministry?
A: Yes, we have a Small Group Ministry with groups meeting throughout the valley to build community and grow together in Christ. For more information about this ministry, call the church office or stop by the Welcome Table in the Worship Center Foyer on Sunday morning.
